Now that you`ve covered the rules of agreement among the experts, guide your students through an activity so they can apply what they`ve learned while they`re having fun. The online game « Space Verbs 1 » on « Got Kids Games » is free to play and you can easily view it on an interactive whiteboard, like a smart card. The game is the theme of space: a sentence appears with an empty space where the verb should be, and then two planets appear, each with a possible verb form. You can divide the class into teams and ask the first team to raise their hands for each question and even allow a team member to be at the front and choose their answer. If you don`t have an interactive whiteboard, you can simply write any sentence and set of answer options on the board. Students of all ages are faced with a technical agreement, so it is very important to give a thorough understanding to these grammatical rules. In addition, the organization of a curriculum should not be dry simply because it teaches grammar. You can start with exciting exercises and strengthen your training with interactive games and evaluations. Now that your class is warmed up and ready for the lesson, you have a discussion about the verb-subject agreement rules. Explain that singular subjects adopt singular verbs and that plural subjects adopt plural verbs.
Be sure to discuss current, past and future times and link verbs such as « is, » « are, » « what » and « were. » Write examples of singular and composite subjects with singular and plural verbs on the board, and ask students to identify the right verbs for different subjects. Also give examples of false phrases and read them aloud so students can hear how stupid they may seem when subjects and verbs don`t match. You go through the Class 1 questions. Ask questions at all levels of the class. Complete the lesson by assigning homework, then check the material one last time. But this time, ask for volunteers to explain the rules. If possible, call a second student to complete another student`s explanation. If z.B a student tells you that a single subject needs a singular verb, you can ask another student what kind of verb a plural subject needs. You can even ask the whole class to call the answer together. Before you immerse yourself in grammar rules, give your class an exercise to warm up and ready for class. Ask your students to write a few sentences for you without telling them the point of the lesson.
Let them write a sentence in which they tell you an exciting thing they did recently, and a sentence in which they tell you an exciting thing they did with another person. Once they have finished writing, you call some students to read their sentences and let the class respond briefly. Write each student`s sentences on the board and highlight themes and verbs and explain that you will teach how themes and verbs should be agreed to work.
